Obverse

On the obverse of 2026 Pitcairn Islands Bounty Gold Coins is a left-facing portrait of King Charles III. Designed by Glyn Davies, this first-generation depiction shows His Majesty without a crown. The obverse also includes the QEII 100 privy mark, added to honor the centennial of Queen Elizabeth IIs birth. The inscriptions include CHARLES III, PITCAIRN ISLANDS, 25 CENTS, 2026, and QEII 100 in the privy mark.

Reverse

The reverse of 2026 Bounty 1/2 Gram Gold Coins highlights the HMS Bounty at sea. The ships extended stay in Tahiti during its early voyage, paired with Blighs strict leadership, contributed to the famous mutiny of April 28, 1789. After the crew took control and sent Bligh and 18 supporters adrift, Fletcher Christian and a small group of mutineers, along with several Tahitian men and women, eventually made their home on Pitcairn Island in 1790. The inscriptions read HMS BOUNTY and .999 AU 0.5 G.

History

HMS Bounty was a compact vessel of the British Royal Navy purchased in 1787 and outfitted for a long expedition meant to collect breadfruit plants in Tahiti. These plants were intended to serve as inexpensive food for enslaved workers in the West Indies. Under Lieutenant William Bligh, the ship left England in December 1787 and reached Tahiti nearly a year later in October 1788, where the crew spent several months gathering and preparing the plants.
