History

Paul Kruger, born in 1825 in the Cape Colony, grew up during a time of expansion as his Voortrekker family joined the Great Trek north. Although his schooling was limited, Kruger developed strong skills as a farmer and hunter and followed the Calvinist faith that influenced his life. His early years in the Transvaal built his dedication to self-rule and set the stage for his leadership role in conflicts with British and neighboring forces.
