The United States Mints Proof Gold Eagle Series has long been a cornerstone of American collector coinage. First introduced in 1986, the Proof Gold Eagle is struck in 22-karat gold and is known for its detailed designs and polished finish. Each coin features Augustus Saint-Gaudens iconic Lady Liberty on the obverse and a modern interpretation of the American bald eagle on the reverse. Right now, 2026-W Proof American Eagle 1 oz Gold Coins are available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
All 2026-W Proof American Eagle 1 oz Gold Coins available here are individually sealed in protective capsules. Each coin is housed in a presentation box and arrives with a themed outer shipper from the Mint. A Certificate of Authenticity is included with every purchase. American Gold Eagles are made from a durable alloy of 91.67% gold, with copper and silver added for strength. This release features a dual 1776-2026 date and a Liberty Bell 250 privy mark honoring 250 years of American independence.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2026-W Proof American Eagle Gold Coin showcases Lady Liberty as designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907. Liberty is shown stepping forward with confidence, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. Sun rays fill the background while a ring of stars frames the edge. The U.S. Capitol Building is visible near Libertys feet, adding historical depth to the design. Inscriptions include LIBERTY, 1776-2026, the W mint mark, and the ASG signature mark.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2026-W Proof Eagle 1 oz Gold Coin is a portrait of the American bald eagle. Introduced in 2020, this design by Jennie Norris presents the eagles head in left-profile relief. Fine detailing highlights the feathers and facial features, creating a clean and balanced look. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, 50 DOLLARS, and 1 OZ. FINE GOLD.
History
The 1 oz Proof American Gold Eagle made its debut in 1986 after passage of the Gold Bullion Coin Act of 1985. As the primary collectible option within the American Gold Eagle Program, the coin contains one troy ounce of 22-karat gold. Proof strikes are created using specially prepared dies and planchets, resulting in mirrored backgrounds and frosted design details. These coins are struck multiple times to achieve a sharper and more defined appearance.
