As the United States prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary in 2026, the United States Mint is unveiling a new design mini-series within the Proof American Platinum Eagle program. The first release in this series is titled Charters of Freedom and focuses on the Declaration of Independence, signed in 1776. This milestone document helped establish the nations core values and direction. Right now, 2026-W Proof American Eagle 1 oz Platinum Coins are available from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 2026-W Proof American Eagle 1 oz Platinum Coin is presented in official United States Mint packaging. The coin is secured inside a clear plastic capsule and placed within a presentation box. A themed outer shipper protects the box, and each coin includes a Certificate of Authenticity issued by the mint. This release marks the beginning of the Charters of Freedom mini-series.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2026-W Proof American Eagle Platinum Coin displays a symbolic design connected to the nations founding. Sun rays shine through clouds, suggesting optimism and the start of a new chapter. A feather quill appears in the foreground to represent the act of writing and signing the Declaration. Fifty-six members of the Continental Congress signed the document, knowing it placed them in serious danger. The inscriptions include LIBERTY, DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE, 2026, IN GOD WE TRUST, and E PLURIBUS UNUM.
Reverse
On the reverse of 2026-W Proof Eagle 1 oz Platinum Coins is the enduring image of the American bald eagle. Used as the series standard reverse since 2018, the design shows the eagle descending with an olive branch held firmly in its talons. The imagery reflects national strength balanced with a commitment to peace. The inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, $100, 1 OZ, .9995 PLATINUM, and the W mint mark.
History
The Declaration of Independence was adopted on July 4, 1776, and formally announced the separation of the thirteen colonies from British rule. More than a political statement, the document outlined ideals of liberty, equality, and self-rule that continue to shape the United States today. Its influence has extended far beyond American borders over the centuries.
