In 2026, the United States reaches a major historical milestone as it celebrates 250 years since its founding. This semiquincentennial observance, known as America250, will be marked nationwide with commemorative programs and special coin releases. To honor this occasion, the United States Mint has introduced a distinctive version of its annual Proof American Silver Eagle. The 2026 issue features two exclusive design additions that reflect the importance of this anniversary year. Right now, 2026-W Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins are available from Provident Metals in certified condition.
Highlights:
These 2026-W Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins are certified at the highest possible grade. PR70 coins are free of visible imperfections and retain full original mint luster. DCAM indicates deep-cameo proof contrast, with frosted devices standing out against mirrored fields. First Strike coins are those submitted for grading within 30 days of release from the mint.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2026-W Proof American Eagle Silver Coin showcases Adolph A. Weinmans classic Walking Liberty design. Liberty appears in full-length left-profile relief, walking toward the sun along the horizon. She is draped in the American flag, extending her right hand forward while carrying oak and laurel branches in her left. Also featured on this side are the America250 design elements, including the dual-date 1776-2026 and a Liberty Bell privy mark. The inscriptions here include LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, 1776, 2026, and the AW signature mark.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2026-W Proof Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin is the detailed bald eagle design created by Emily Damstra. First used in 2021, the image shows the eagle descending with its wings raised, rendered in left-profile relief. An oak branch held in the eagles talons completes the design. Inscriptions here include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, ONE DOLLAR, 1 OZ. FINE SILVER, and the W mint mark.
History
Proof American Silver Eagles were produced in limited quantities during the 1980s, with minting taking place from 1986 through 1989. Annual mintages during that time ranged from about half a million to just over one million coins. All Proof Silver Eagles from this period were struck at the San Francisco Mint and continue to be collected for their historical importance within the series.
