The Austrian 25 Schilling Gold Coin was minted from 1926 to 1938. Schillings were the official currency of Austria in the inter-war periods between the end of World War I. These coins were in circulation as the new republic regained strength following the breakup of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the invasion of Austria during World War II.

The obverse of all Austrian 25 Schilling Gold Coins bears the Austrian coat of arms with an eagle. The eagle is in the center of the coat of arms and holds a hammer in one claw to represent the industry of Austria, while the sickle in the other talon represents the countrys agriculture.

There were two different issue periods for the Austrian 25 Schilling Gold Coins. The first was from 1926 to 1934, and they featured a simple reverse design with only the face value of the coins on the reverse of the coin. The second release of the coin was from 1935 to the end of the production of the Austrian 25 Schilling Gold Coin featured the image of St. Leopold on the reverse side of the coin.

As one of the oldest mints in Europe, it is no surprise that the Austrian Mint has produced some of the most well-known coins in the world. The Austrian Mint was founded by Duke Leopold V in 1194 with 15 tonnes of silver paid to him as ransom by Richard the Lionheart of England.
