History

The United States Mint produced Cuban Gold Pesos in 1915 and 1916 for the First Republic of Cuba. The design includes a portrait of Jose Marti on the reverse. Mart is remembered not only for his efforts as a revolutionary leader but also for his significant contributions to Cuban literature and philosophy. Called the “Apostle of Cuban Independence,” he promoted ideals of freedom, racial equality, and unity throughout Latin America.
