Goldbacks come to the Southwest through the release of the Arizona Goldback Series. This series celebrates Arizonas deep and diverse past, from its days of Spanish exploration and Mexican rule to its recognition as a United States territory and state. Today, 5 Arizona Goldback Gold Notes are available from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 5 Arizona Goldback Gold Note comes safely enclosed in a protective currency sleeve. The 5 Goldback denomination has been a constant part of every state-themed Goldback issue since the programs beginning.
Design
The obverse of the 5 Arizona Goldback Gold Note shows a female gunfighter standing in the dusty streets of Tombstone with smoke drifting from her pistol. On October 26, 1881, the Earp brothersWyatt, Virgil, and Morganjoined Doc Holliday in a half-minute standoff against the Clanton-McLaury faction near the O.K. Corral. The event remains one of the most famous encounters of the American Old West.
History
The design of the 5 Arizona Goldback reflects the historic shootout at the O.K. Corral in Tombstone, Arizona. Founded in 1877 after prospector Ed Schieffelin uncovered silver in the harsh desert, Tombstone became a frontier boomtown full of energy and conflict. In the early 1880s, the Town Too Tough to Die thrived with thousands of residents, bustling saloons, gambling halls, and the occasional deadly standoff between lawmen and outlaws. These clashes reached their peak in the legendary gunfight at the O.K. Corral.
