The 1896 Silver Certificate Series is often held up as the top example of the most beautiful American monetary design collection. This series of Silver Certificates included the three common denominations of the era: $1, $2, and $5. Provident Metals has $5 Educational Legal Tender Notes available to you for purchase online.

When you purchase a $5 Educational Legal Tender Note in this listing at Provident Metals, the item you receive is housed individually inside a beautiful bi-fold display folio. This folio houses the $5 Federal Reserve Note on the right and has a Certificate of Authenticity on the left. The notes available here are legitimate US legal tender Federal Reserve Notes. Each one has been enhanced with high-definition graphics replicating the 1896 $5 Silver Certificate obverse design. These notes are in uncirculated condition and were picked from a sealed Federal Reserve pack of $5 bills. Each is crisp and clean.

Obverse

The female allegory known as Electricity is found on the obverse side of $5 Educational Legal Tender Notes. Her effigy is shown here holding a light aloft for the world, showcasing the power of electricity to provide light to the world at any time of the day.

Reverse

The Lincoln Memorial is depicted in the reverse design of $5 Educational Legal Tender Notes. The $5 bill in the Federal Reserve Note series was last updated in 2006 with modern anti-counterfeiting measures, modifying the imagery of President Abraham Lincoln on the obverse and the Lincoln Memorial here on the reverse. An effigy of President Lincoln has been on $5 bills for more than a century, with the Lincoln Memorial added to the Federal Reserve Note series of bills in 1929.

History

The imagery of the female allegory of Electricity found here on the $5 Educational Legal Tender Note comes directly from Americas most-coveted series of paper note designs. In 1896, the Educational Series was introduced on the $1, $2, and $5 Silver Certificates. The issuance of Silver Certificates from 1878 to 1964 allowed Americans to exchange the certificates at any time for silver dollars, and later silver bullion, and was one of many forms of paper currency in circulation in the country at that time.
