From 1892 to 1916, the United States Mint issued the so-called Barber Coinage in the dime, quarter, and half-dollar denominations. This series of coins was unique in its use of the same obverse design on all three coins in the series and a shared design for the two larger coins in the series, with the Barber Dime having its own unique reverse. Right now, you can buy 90% Silver Barber Dimes in a $5 allotment online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
If you purchase the 90% Silver Barber Dimes in this product listing, Provident Metals provides the dimes in protective packaging containing 50 dimes in total for a face value of $5 (USD). The coins are available to you with date marks ranging from 1892 to 1916. Provident Metals cannot guarantee which date marks you will find in your bag. The dates are most likely to vary, but it is possible you will receive some matching date marks among the 50 US dimes inside. All of the coins are in Average Circulated condition. Coins in this condition typically have common signs of wear and tear from handling, but do not possess significant signs of damage.
Obverse
For the obverse field of the 90% Silver Barber Dimes, the US Mint used a right-profile bust of Lady Liberty. She is shown with a wreath crown tied on her head and a cap on that holds her hair up in a bun at the back of her head. The coins date mark is shown at the bottom of the field with United States of America inscribed along the top.
Reverse
In the reverse design element, the 90% Silver Barber Dime uses a unique design that separates it from the other two denominations of the Barber Coinage. This field includes a wreath surrounding the words One Dime.
History
Barber Coinage designs were used until 1916 when each was replaced by a more popular and iconic image from the United States Mint. While all three coins shared the Liberty bust on the obverse, the quarter and half dollar had a version of the heraldic eagle on the reverse, unlike these 90% Silver Barber Dimes. Each dime in this listing has 90% silver content and 10% copper.
