Goldbacks are a voluntary local currency produced by layering a thin sheet of 24-karat gold between durable polymer materials. Each note includes carefully detailed artwork and a specific fractional amount of real gold, making Goldbacks a rare example of a gold-backed currency designed for everyday circulation. The concept first appeared in Utah and has since expanded into other states, connecting the long-standing value of precious metals with a usable medium of exchange. The Idaho series introduces new designs tied to the states heritage and natural environment. Today, 5 Idaho Goldback Gold Notes are available from Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Comes with individual sleeves or bundles of 20 notes!
  • Special design for the Idaho series!
  • Visuals inspired by the allegory Clementia!
  • Contains 1/200 troy oz of .9999 pure gold.
  • The design recalls the Great Fire and its aftermath in Idaho.
  • Please keep in mind that Goldbacks are NOT US legal tender.
  • UV enhancements and other advanced security features included.

Each 5 Idaho Goldback Gold Note is produced with genuine 24-karat gold sealed within protective layers to preserve the note while maintaining its gold content. Individual notes are packaged in currency sleeves to protect their condition. Orders of 20 notes arrive grouped together with a black strap and do not include individual sleeves. In addition to its gold content, every Goldback includes security elements such as UV-reactive details, micro-printing, and individual serial numbers.

Design

The obverse design of the 5 Idaho Goldback Gold Note portrays Clementia caring for animals following the devastation of the Great Fire. The Great Fire of 1910, often referred to as the Big Blowup, remains the largest wildfire in the history of the United States. In just one August weekend, powerful winds combined with extremely dry conditions to spread fires across about three million acres of land in Idaho, Montana, and Washington. The disaster resulted in the deaths of 85 people and destroyed several towns, including Wallace and Avery in Idaho. The event significantly influenced national forest policies and helped strengthen the role of the newly formed U.S. Forest Service.

History

Clementia represents mercy and compassion in Roman tradition and was viewed as a quality of wise leadership. She is commonly portrayed as a graceful woman with a calm expression, sometimes shown holding an olive branch or lowering a scepter as a sign of forgiveness and restraint. Her symbolism emphasizes the belief that true authority can be expressed through patience and understanding rather than force. As a figure connected with responsible stewardship, Clementia also reflects the importance of caring for land and natural surroundings.
