Gold bars have been a symbol of prosperity and a store of wealth for thousands of years. From the era of ancient Egypt to the massive gold stores at Fort Knox in the United States Gold Bullion Depository, gold bars have been held as a source of reliable, trusted wealth protection. As of the 1970s, Americans can again hold gold privately as a means of protecting individual wealth. Today, you have the opportunity to get 5 oz Gold Bars from Johnson Matthey online at Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with protective wrapping around the bar and a standard cardboard box!
  • Stunning cast bars!
  • Contains 5 Troy oz of .999+ pure gold content.
  • On the obverse is the Johnson Matthey logo with the weight, metal content, and purity.
  • The reverse field of the bar has no design elements.

Cast gold bars are produced using one of the most trusted and historic forms of metal refining. Gold is heated to its melting point and then poured into prefabricated molds. The molds are made from heat-resistant materials and the bars are then left inside of the mold to cool. Some mints will leave the back of the mold open during cooling, while others are enclosed entirely while cooling. Once the bars have cooled most of the way, inscriptions are stamped into the bars incuse.

Obverse

On the obverse side of 5 oz Gold Bars from Johnson Matthey, you will find simple inscriptions stamped into the surface of the bar in an incuse style. These inscriptions include the Johnson Matthey logo that consists of an oval with the words Johnson Matthey SLC inscribed in the outer rim of the oval. Other inscriptions on this side of the gold bar include Fine Gold and 5 Ounces. The incuse strike of the bars includes sinking the marks into the surface of the bar so that, were you to run your hands along the bars surface, you would not feel any raised elements.

Reverse

The reverse field of the 5 oz Gold Bar is left blank on purpose by the mint. This face of the bar was most likely not accessible during the cooling process. While no markings or designs have been issued on this side of the bars, you will notice some distinct visuals. For example, it is possible for various textures, striations, and other forms to appear as the gold settles and cools in the mold.

History

Johnson Matthey operated within the precious metals market for nearly two centuries. Beginning in 2015, it entered negotiations with Asahi Inc. from Tokyo, Japan, to selloff its precious metals business. Asahi eventually acquired, in early 2016, Johnson Mattheys refining and assaying centers in North America.
