History
In 1916, the Walking Liberty was created by Adolph A. Weinman, who was participating in the United States Mint contest. The image replaced a design by Charles E. Barber on certain coins. The heraldic eagle was designed by John Mercanti in 1986. He served as the United States Mints 12th Chief Engraver.
