Design
The 5 oz Silver 2026 Gilded FIFA World Cup Replica Trophy carries forward Gazzanigas design from 1970. FIFA reviewed more than 50 ideas before selecting this version, which made its first appearance in the 1974 tournament. Over time, the base of the trophy has seen some updates, including the 2014 change that rearranged the winners names into a spiral format. The real trophy can accommodate engravings until 2038, after which FIFA may introduce a new design.
History
Since 1930, only two trophies have been part of the World Cups history: the Jules Rimet Trophy from 1930 to 1970 and the current FIFA World Cup Trophy from 1974 onward. The Jules Rimet piece showed the goddess Nike with a cup, reflecting a classical style. In contrast, the modern trophy is more abstract and contemporary, marking a clear change in design and meaning.
