Design

The 5 oz Silver Antique Finish Lady Liberty Statue recreates the appearance of the Statue of Liberty. In this design, Liberty stands in her long, flowing robe as she holds a torch high up overhead in her right hand to offer a guiding light to the world, attracting immigrants from distressed countries to the bounty and opportunity of the United States of America. Her left hand clutches a tablet that, in real life, has Roman numerals inscribed on it with the date of Americas independence: July 4, 1776.

History

The Statue of Liberty was a project that took more than a decade to complete. The concept behind the statue came from a French architect, the same man who designed the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The statue was gifted to the United States by the people of France as a symbol of an enduring friendship between the two nations. Libertys right arm and torch were among the first pieces of the statue to arrive in America and were actually put on display for the public in New York City as a means of fundraising for its construction site in New York Harbor.

Libertys figure was actually built in France, disassembled and shipped across the Atlantic to the United States, and later reassembled in New York Harbor. The statue still stands today in the harbor where it has greeted millions of immigrants arriving in the United States through the processing station at Ellis Island.
