President Thomas Jefferson is depicted on the American circulation nickel coin. The third President elected in the United States, Jefferson was responsible for the largest expansion of the United States, when he brokered the Louisiana Purchase. This deal saw Jefferson doubling the size of the brand new nation, and also ensured Jeffersons place in history as one of the fathers of the nation.

In 2005, the United States Mint released a reworked design of the nickel, with a new portrait of Thomas Jefferson. The coin was a part of the Westward Journey commemorative release that marked Jeffersons work expanding the country.

Obverse

The obverse of the 5 oz Silver Antique Jefferson Skull Hobo Nickel Series features a design that is a version of the 2005 Jefferson nickel. A skull is set in place of the right-profile portrait of Jefferson. The design also features engravings that are found on the 2005 Jefferson nickel, which include In God We Trust and Liberty. Also included is the year of issue.

Reverse

The reverse design of the 5 oz Silver Antique Jefferson Skull Hobo Nickel Series features a detailed image of a hobo walking in the foreground. He is pictured with a walking cane and a knapsack over his shoulder with all of his belongings in it. The train that is featured in the background is puffing out plumes of smoke that closely resemble the buffalos featured on the Buffalo Nickels.
