Inspired by the mystery and ferocity that is familiar to Norse Mythology, the 5 oz Silver Norse God Series Odin Antique Round features the artwork of world-renowned illustrator, Howard David Johnson. The Norse god Odin seems to come to life in this series of silver rounds brought into reality by Anonymous Mint and Osborne Precious Metals. The design on this round is the first design in the Norse God Series, and is a great introduction to the series. Prior to the release of the 5 oz round, each of the five designs in the series was released in a 1 oz antique round option. Made with .999 pure silver, this is a collectible that is highly valued by those who have interest in Norse mythology.

Round Highlights:

  • Packaged securely in a protective plastic capsule, includes a signed Certificate of Authenticity.
  • 1st design in the 5 oz Norse God Series.
  • Mintage maximum limited to 500 rounds.
  • Contains 5 Troy oz of .999 pure silver.
  • Obverse features Odin, his wolves and his ravens.
  • Reverse features a Valkyrie.

Norse mythology is filled with tales about the gods and demigods who were known for their warlike tendencies. Odin is the god most often associated with war, battle, wisdom, healing, royalty, knowledge and victory. Odin, revered as the King of Asgard, was also known to be married to the goddess Frigg.

Obverse Design

The obverse features Odin seated upon his throne in Asgard. On either side of him, perched upon the arms of his throne are the two ravens, Huggins and Muggins. At Odins feet and peering out from behind his throne are his two wolves, Geri and Freki. Gripped firmly in his hand is Odins spear, known as Gungnir. The words Odin and The All-Father are scribed upon the round.

Reverse Design

The reverse of the round features a Valkyrie upon a rearing horse. The Valkyrie were female warriors who oversaw the battlefields on earth and determined those who would die in battle and those who would live. They also escorted their chosen to Valhalla. The words Valkyrie and Chooser of the Slain are printed upon the round. The weight and metal content of the round is also on the reverse.

History

These silver rounds have a mirrored antique proof finish. This results in the appearance of an aged coin, without the coin having undergone years of handling to get the antique look.
