Thor, the god of Thunder, is one of the most well-known of the Norse gods second perhaps only to his father Odin. This round, a collaboration between Anonymous Mint and Osborne Precious Metals, features Thor himself, pictured in traditional warrior dress. The 5 oz silver round is made from .999 pure silver. The Norse god series of rounds features 5 designs, each boasting an intricate piece of art representing one of the more well-known and popular Norse gods. This round, featuring Thor, is the 2nd release in the series, following Odin. Hel, Freya and Loki round out this highly collectible series.

Round Highlights:

  • Arrives protected in a plastic capsule, with included Certificate of Authenticity.
  • 2nd design released in the Norse god series of rounds.
  • Mintage of 500 rounds, for total distribution.
  • Contains 5 Troy oz of .999 pure silver.
  • Obverse features Thor as he wields his Mjolnir, his hammer.
  • Reverse features the image of a Valkyrie.

Each of the silver rounds in the Norse God Series features beautifully detailed artwork that was inspired by the work of Howard David Johnson. Johnsons original work of the Norse gods includes Odin, Thor, Hel, Freya and Loki. Italian master sculptor, Luigi Badia, transformed the artwork into dazzling 3D blanks, to produce the rounds in their dazzling glory.

Thor, the god of Thunder, is one of the better-known gods of Norse mythology. He and his hammer Mjolnir, which never misses its mark, are often depicted taking on their foes on the battlefield together.

Obverse Design

The obverse design of the 5 oz silver Norse God Series Thor silver round features the awe-inspiring image of Thor. Thor is shown holding Mjolnir out in front of him, with lightning shooting out from the famous hammer. Storm clouds rage in the background, while Thor rides his chariot to meet his foes in battle. Not depicted are the goats tasked with pulling the chariot, Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjostr.

Reverse Design

The reverse of each of the rounds in the Norse God Series features the image of a proud Valkyrie. The Valkyrie were most often women warrior riders who were to be seen thundering through the clouds over battlefields. The Valkyrie were tasked with seeing those who died a heros death make their way to Valhalla. Also engraved upon the reverse of the rounds are the words Valkyrie and Chooser of the Slain.

Thor, often featured in movies about superheroes, is often shown as a towering and imposing figure, never far from his mighty hammer Mjolnir.
