Designed in 1913 by James Earle Fraser, the Buffalo Nickel design was one of the most popular on American coins of the 20th century. Frasers design was significant in American history as it was one of the first circulation coin designs to use images inspired by indigenous tribes in North America, rather than featuring depictions of Liberty and the American bald eagle. Provident Metals now offers you the chance to purchase the SilverTowne Buffalo 5 oz Silver Round.
Highlights:
SilverTowne Buffalo 5 oz Silver Rounds are available to you in brand-new condition with inspiring images from the Buffalo Nickel. Individual rounds ships inside of protective plastic flips, while bulk orders have two different shipping options. Multiples of 20 ship with a mint tube, while multiples of 100 are available in boxes that contain five individual tubes.
Obverse
The obverse face of the SilverTowne Buffalo 5 oz Silver Round includes the famous image of an indigenous tribal figure. The right-profile portrait captures the image of a stoic individual with long, braided hair that includes feathers woven into the braid. The word Liberty is inscribed on the upper-right side of the design field along the outer edge.
Reverse
On the reverse side of the SilverTowne Buffalo 5 oz Silver Round is the image of an American bison. This design was inspired by the appearance of Black Diamond, a resident bison of the Central Park Zoo in New York City during the early 20th century. The bison is featured in left-profile relief on a mound of dirt.
History
The Buffalo Nickel coin design was created by James Earle Fraser. It debuted on the nickel in 1938 and would remain there until 1938. The coins design was inspired by Frasers life growing up in his native Minnesota and traveling through the Dakotas with his father, who was employed by the regional railroad as an engineer. The Buffalo Nickel design was approved by the administration of President William Howard Taft.
