New Hampshire is a fitting addition to the growing number of states allowing Goldbacks as a form of voluntary local currency. Following the passage of a legal tender act in Utah in 2011, Nevada and New Hampshire have now also opened the door to gold bullion pieces being acceptable forms of payment in commercial transactions. Though these are not legal tender notes, they are acceptable with any vendor that chooses to accept. Each version is only acceptable in its applicable state. Right now, you can buy 50 New Hampshire Goldback Gold Notes online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
When you purchase one of these 50 New Hampshire Goldback Gold Notes online from Provident Metals, you will receive an item new from the mint. The Goldback Gold Notes will ship individually housed inside of plastic currency sleeves to enhance the protection afforded to the gold notes. Each one is designed with thin layers of gold combined between two sheets of polyester.
Obverse
On the obverse side of the 50 New Hampshire Goldback Gold Note is a depiction of Libertas. The Roman embodiment of Liberty, Libertas is shown here walking in a three-quarter profile relief with a handful of arrows in her right hand and a flag pole in her left hand. The flag pole has a small banner that reads Libertas, with the famed Pine Tree Flag at the top.
Reverse
The reverse field of 50 New Hampshire Goldback Gold Notes showcases the same design from the obverse as it is visible through the thin layer of gold. The application of the gold layers is so thin that it is a challenge to produce unique designs on each side of the note. Doing so risks muddling the visual appeal of both designs.
History
New Hampshire is the fifth-smallest US state by area and 10th smallest by population. The first state to break away from Great Britain by forming its own independent government, New Hampshire was also the first to write up its own constitution and was the ninth state to ratify the US Constitution after the Americans defeated Britain in the Revolutionary War.
The Pine Tree Flag depicted in the obverse design is also sometimes known as the Tree Flag. Historically, it featured the phrase An Appeal to Heaven more commonly, but An Appeal to God was also used. The design came from Colonel Joseph reed, General George Washingtons secretary. It was Col. Reed who suggested its use to Washington on ships that the Commander-in-Chief commissioned for the Continental Navy.
