Platinum is so similar in appearance to silver that when it was first discovered, it was named platin by the Spanish. This translates into English as little silver, and is fitting in more ways than one as platinum is only available in 1/100th the volume of silver within the Earths crust. Right now, you can buy 500 Gram Platinum Bars in varied conditions online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
With your purchase of the 500 Gram Platinum Bar in this Provident Metals listing, the bars you receive will come inside plastic bags. The bars available here are in varied conditions with various designs based on the mint of origin. The bar may be new or like-new, while others may have minor scratches and scuffs or even heavy contact marks, dents, and other flaws.
Provident Metals offers these bars at random after your payment has cleared. We select bars to fulfill your order from available inventory at the moment your payment clears. We are not able to guarantee the design, mint of origin, or condition of the bar in advance. If you buy more than one, you may receive bars with matching designs and conditions.
Designs
The obverse and reverse fields of the 500 Gram Platinum Bars you receive in this listing vary based on the program the bar is issued in and the mint it is released by. Minted ingots tend to have designs on both the obverse and reverse, with typical designs reflecting the mint logo, weight, purity, and metal content, at a minimum. Other possible designs include serial numbers and/or an assayers mark. Simpler cast platinum bars may only have these types of markings on one side of the bar, with a blank reverse field.
History
Platinum naturally occurs in alluvial sands within rivers and streams. Pre-Columbian South American cultures used platinum in their art and artifacts, though modern scholars believe that it was not known at the time that the platinum was in use. Its similarity to silver and the fact that many artifacts were discovered secondhand and the platinum was often combined with gold.
