History
The JFK Half Dollar was designed and released quickly by the US Mint as a result of design dies already available to it. Gilroy Roberts, then the 9th Chief Engraver of the US Mint, and Frank Gasparro, then the Assistant Chief Engraver and future 10th Chief Engraver of the US Mint, created the images for the obverse and reverse. The duo had created the design dies eventually used for the JFK Half Dollar in 1962 for two separate Presidential Medal series releases.
