The astronauts of the Apollo 11 mission included commander Neil Armstrong, lunar lander pilot Buzz Aldrin, and command module pilot Michael Collins. Of the three men, only Armstrong and Aldrin would eventually set foot on the Moon. Collins remained behind in orbit around the Moon in the command module. After an eight-day mission, all three men splashed down in the South Pacific where the US Navy retrieved the crew and their capsule.

History

The Apollo 11 mission from NASA included medallions made of sterling silver by the Robbins Company of Attleboro, Massachusetts. The company made several medallions for crews to take into space to commemorate the mission starting with Apollo 1 and running consecutively through the Apollo 7-17 missions and concluding with the Apollo Soyuz mission in 1975.
