Obverse

The obverse of these Australian Nugget Kangaroo Gold Coins features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Over the years, the Queens effigy has been updated, with many coins likely featuring either Raphael Makloufs third-generation effigy or Ian Rank-Broadleys fourth-generation effigy.

Reverse

On the reverse side of the Nugget Kangaroo 1/2 oz Gold Coins, you will find various designs. Since 1990, Perth Mint has included different images of the native kangaroo on the reverse of the coins. Australia is home to four different subspecies of kangaroos, with the Western Grey and the Red Kangaroo being the most commonly featured on the coins.

History

The Australian Nugget Series was renamed the Australian Kangaroo in 1990, but the “Australian Nugget” engraving remained on the coins until 2008. Despite these changes, the kangaroo design theme has remained constant since 1990.
