Mexican Silver Libertads
Manufactured since 1982 by the National Mint of Mexico, the Mexican Silver Libertad has grown to become one of the world’s most popular investment vehicles, alongside American Silver Eagles and Canadian Silver Maples.
Libertads are minted in various sizes — from 1/20 oz to 1 kilogram — and contain .999 fine silver bullion.
The obverse design depicts the Mexican National Seal that shows an eagle above a cactus with a snake in its beak. Ten symbols representing Mexico’s 10 provinces surround the design.
The Winged Victory goddess, first shown in Roman designs, is displayed on the reverse. The historic and significant symbol of winged Victoria is portrayed before two of Mexico’s most famous volcanoes — Popocatepeti and Iztaccihauti.
As the oldest minting facility in North America, the National Mint of Mexico adds to the historic value of the coins. From its original design mimicking the Centenario gold coin to the style change in the mid-1990s, the Mexican Silver Libertad has become a worldwide favorite among both investors and collectors.
