Map Shaped Coin Series

Issued by the Perth Mint, the Australian Map-Shaped series celebrates some of the nation’s most iconic creatures — along with the island-continent’s distinct shape.

Composed of 1 troy oz of .999 pure silver, the reverse of each coin features a colorized image, while the obverse displays a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

No more than 6,000 of each coin will be released in the five-coin series, which includes the following coins:

  • Kookaburra
  • Emu
  • Kangaroo
  • Platypus
  • Koala
  • Saltwater Crocodile

About the Perth Mint

The Perth Mint was founded in 1899 after gold was discovered in Australian deposits. The newly-established mint struck gold and silver sovereigns until Great Britain abandoned the gold standard in 1931.

The mint remained under British ownership until July of 1970, when it ceded to the state government of Western Australia. Today, the Perth Mint produces nearly all of the nation’s legal tender bullion coins in its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.
