Canadian Maple Leaf Coins from the Royal Canadian Mint represent the national bullion coin series for the country. The coins debuted in 1979 with a gold bullion option and increased in 1988 with the introduction of both silver and platinum options. The platinum coins remain available in this series, but no longer feature the fractional-ounce coins once offered. Provident Metals currently has Canadian Maple Leaf 1/4 oz Platinum Coins available to you for purchase.

With your purchase of a Canadian Maple Leaf 1/4 oz Platinum Coin, you receive your specimen in a protective plastic flip. The fractional-ounce coins in this series were only available from introduction in 1988 until 2002. Those are the only date marks you will find in this listing as a result.

Obverse

The obverse face of Canadian Maple Leaf 1/4 oz Platinum Coins comes with the image of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majestys effigy is updated routinely by the Royal Canadian Mint and the fractional-ounce coins in the Canadian Maple Leaf Platinum Series come with two possible portraits. The 1988 and 1989 issues have Arnold Machins second-generation portrait of the Queen at the age of 39, while the 1990 to 2002 coins feature Dora de Pedery-Hunts third-generation bust of the Queen at the age of 64.

Reverse

On the reverse of Canadian Maple Leaf 1/4 oz Platinum Coins is an image of the sugar maple leaf. Created by Walter Ott in 1979, the sugar maple leaf design is used on all the versions of the Canadian Maple Leaf bullion coins.

History

Canadian Maple Leaf 1/4 oz Platinum Coins were first issued in 1988 alongside the 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz versions of this coin. In 1994, the Royal Canadian Mint also issued a 1/15 oz coin to mark the 15th anniversary of Canadian Maple Leaf bullion coins. 2002 was the last year fractional-ounce coins were issued in platinum and the 1 oz version was temporarily suspended. The latter weight returned as the only option in 2009.
