Certified Canadian Silver Coins at Provident Metals

The Royal Canadian Mint is one of the most popular and well-known sovereign mints in the world. While they’re mostly known for their Canadian Maple Leaf Series, the mint creates several popular silver coins every year. As such, their coins are popular in terms of certification. Learn all about Certified Canadian Silver Coins, right here at Provident Metals.

Certification Process

A Certified Silver Coin is a coin that is graded by a coin grading service, such as the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) or the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS).

Coins are received by the coin grading service and reviewed by at least two numismatists. After the coin is given a grade, it is encapsulated to preserve its condition before being sent back to its owner.

Both the NGC and the PCGS use the Sheldon Scale to grade coins from 1 to 70.

Popular Options

  • Canadian Maple Leaf: The most popular certified coin from the RCM is the Canadian Maple Leaf Silver Coin. As the official silver bullion coin of Canada, it is one of the most popular silver coins on the market today. These coins have been issued annually since 1988 and were the first .9999 pure silver bullion coins on the market.
  • Canadian Privy Maple Leaf: The RCM also periodically releases special Maple Leaf coins with privy marks. These Canadian Maple Leaf Privy Silver Coins are part of the Maple Leaf coin program, but, they have special privy marks to commemorate events and anniversaries.
  • Canadian Commens: The RCM also periodically issues Canadian commemorative coins. These have become great certified options over the years due to their rarity.

For the Canadian Maple Leaf Silver Series, the obverse field has always displayed the image of the reigning British monarch. This includes the following images:

  • 1988-1989: The Queen at the age of 39 is shown. Arnold Machin designed this image.
  • 1990-2003: Her Majesty at the age of 64 is displayed. Dora de Pédery-Hunt designed this image.
  • 2004-2023: Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 79 is pictured. Susanna Blunt designed this image.
  • 2024- Present: King Charles III is seen on the obverse. This image was designed by Steven Rosati.
