One of the worlds most popular gold bullion coins, the Chinese Panda is available on an annual basis from the Chinese Mint. The official gold bullion coin for the Peoples Republic of China, the gold bullion version comes in five weights that were previously issued in Troy oz prior to 2016. The largest of those former fractional-ounce coins was the 1/2 oz gold coin. Today, you have the opportunity to get Chinese Panda 1/2 oz Gold Coins online from Provident Metals in perfect condition.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with a PCGS or NGC individual plastic slab!
  • Available from 1982 to 2015!
  • Limited number of certified perfect gold coins available!
  • Contains 1/2 Troy oz of .999 pure gold.

  • Graded Mint State 70 by the Professional Coin Grading Service or the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
  • On the obverse is the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests.
  • The reverse field includes a new depiction of the Giant Panda each year.

Chinese Panda Gold Coins were introduced in 1982 with 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz options, with a 1/20 oz coin added in 1983. The series has used new reverse designs reflecting the Giant Panda species in each year since 1982, with one exception. The 2001 design was repeated on the reverse of the 2002 coin, a one-time repetition that was met with disdain among investors.

Obverse

On the obverse of Chinese Panda 1/2 oz Gold Coins, you will find an image of the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. This design has been on the coins each year since 1982 and reflects a view of the Taoist temple from outside the front doors. The Temple of Heaven Complex in Beijing was built between 1406 and 1420. The inscriptions on this face of the coin identify the date of issue and the nation of issue.

Reverse

The reverse side of Chinese Panda Gold Coins comes with a new design of the Giant Panda each year. Noted for its black-and-white patches of fur, the Giant Panda is a unique bear species native to the mountainous regions of central China. The Giant Panda design is accompanied each year by inscriptions of 1/2 oz Au 999 and the face value of either 50 or 200 Yuan.

History

The face value of Chinese Panda 1/2 oz Gold Coins changed once between 1982 and 2015. From 1982 to 2000, the value assigned was 50 Yuan. From 2000 to 2015, the value assigned was 200 Yuan. In 2016, the 1/2 oz gold coin became the 15 Gram gold coin when the Chinese Mint moved away from Troy oz weights for its series.
