Obverse

On the obverse of all Chinese Panda 1/2 oz Gold Coins, you will find the image of the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. This is the primary structure within the Temple of Heaven Complex in south-central Beijing.

Reverse

The reverse field of the Chinese Panda Gold Coins includes the Giant Panda. This bear species is native to the central highlands of China and is distinctive for its black and white patches of fur. The panda is an unofficial emblem of China and features on the reverse of this coin series every year with new images of the panda. This gives the collection collectible value on top of its investment-grade production.

History

Chinese Panda Gold Coins were introduced in 1982 with 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz weights. A 1/20 oz coin was later added in 1983. From 1982 to 2000, the Chinese Mint issued its 1/2 oz gold coins in the Panda Series with a 50 Yuan face value, adjusting it upward to 200 Yuan in 2001. In 2015, the original Troy ounce weights were canceled and the coins adjusted slightly for continued issue in Grams.
