Few gold bullion coins in the world offer the allure of the Chinese Panda Series. Though it is not the purest gold coin in the world, it is one of only a handful of investment-grade bullion collections that offers collectible value at the same time. This is a result of the programs use of new reverse designs each year. Today, you have the opportunity to purchase Chinese Panda 1/4 oz Gold Coins at Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with a protective plastic flip!
  • Struck between 1982 and 2015!
  • Contains 1/4 Troy oz of .999 pure gold.
  • The face value of 25 or 100 (Yuan) is backed by the Peoples Republic of China.
  • Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests is depicted on the obverse.
  • Giant Pandas are shown on the reverse.
  • Please remember that purchasing through a random year listing could result in receiving matching dates and designs if you buy multiples.

The Chinese Mint introduced the Chinese Panda Gold Coin as the first option in its panda bullion series in 1982. The coins were unveiled that year with 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold options. In 1983, a 1/20 oz coin was added. 1983 also saw the introduction of a silver coin, but it took several years for the Chinese Mint to standardize its silver bullion coins and issued its first regular silver bullion option in 1989.

Obverse

The facade of the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests is featured on the obverse side of Chinese Panda 1/4 oz Gold Coins. One of several buildings in the Temple of Heaven complex, the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests is the largest building and is an important Taoist religious site within the city of Beijing.

Reverse

For the reverse field, Chinese Panda 1/4 oz Gold Coins come with new designs of the Giant Panda species for each year of issue. Only two coin dates have ever shared a design, with the 2001 and 2002 coins featuring the same design. All other years have a new design of the Giant Panda.

History

From 1982 to 2015, the Chinese Mint issued its Chinese Panda Gold Coins with weights marked in Troy ounces. Starting in 2016, the mint shifted course and marked its coins in Grams throughout the series. The 1/4 oz gold coin was gone and replaced with the 8 Gram coin, which resulted in the coin increasing slightly in diameter while maintaining the same thickness.

Ordering

Chinese Panda 1/4 oz Gold Coins in this listing come with a protective plastic flip. These coins have been unsealed from the original Chinese Mint sealed plastic. Each coin is chosen at random once your payment has been processed and we cannot guarantee a particular design and date. If you buy more than one, please remember you might receive matching dates and designs.
