Your purchase of a Chinese Panda 1 oz Silver Coin in this listing ships with a protective plastic slab to house the coin. Each coin has a Mint State 70 certification from the PCGS. Coins in this condition have full, original mint luster with no detracting flaws of any kind present. It is also possible, though not guaranteed, that these coins could come with additional labels. These include the First Strike label that indicates the coins were received for grading within the first 30 days of release by the Chinese Mint in the particular year of issue.

Obverse

A hallmark of the Chinese Panda 1 oz Silver Coin Series is the use of a new design on the obverse each year. The Giant Panda species is always featured on this side of the coin and the Chinese Mint has only repeated a design once in this series. The 2001 and 2002 coins have the same design. All other coins have a distinctive image for the date mark.

Reverse

The reverse of the Chinese Panda 1 oz Silver Coin features the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. This is the primary building found in the Temple of Heaven Complex, a religious site that was built in Beijing between 1406 and 1420.

History

Chinese Panda 1 oz Silver Coins were first available as proof specimens. Between 1983 and 1985, Chinese Mint issued the coin as a 27 Gram specimen with .900 fine silver content. No Chinese Panda Silver Coin was struck in 1986. In 1987, the series resumed with a 1 Troy oz weight and sterling silver, or .925, content. It wasnt until 1989 that the coin was issued as a bullion specimen with 1 Troy oz of .999 pure silver. This continued until 2016 when the Chinese Mint unveiled Chinese Panda 30 Gram Silver Coins instead.
