Chinese Panda Silver Coins from the Chinese Mint have a much more complex coining history than the gold bullion version of the coin. Introduced in 1983, the coin was not standardized as a 1 oz .999 pure silver coin until 1989 and had undergone a one-year suspension early on before moving toward standardization. As of 1989, the Chinese Panda Silver Coins have only grown in popularity with investors. Right now, you can buy Chinese Panda 1 oz Silver Coins online at Provident Metals.

We are not able to accommodate requests for particular dates or designs, and if you purchase multiples you may receive coins with matching date marks and designs.
Obverse
On the obverse side of the Chinese Panda 1 oz Silver Coin is a depiction of the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. This building is the primary structure in the Temple of Heaven Complex and was built between 1406 and 1420. This design element has featured on the obverse of the Chinese Panda Silver Coin and all Chinese Panda Gold Coins every year since each respective series was introduced.
Reverse
The reverse face of the Chinese Panda 1 oz Silver Coin includes ever-changing images of the Giant Panda species. The only repeat design is found on the 2002 date mark, which saw the 2001 design used again. The Chinese Mint pioneered the use of changing design elements in 1983 on the silver coin and 1982 on the gold coin. No other major programs followed suit until the Australian Kangaroo Gold Coin and Australian Kookaburra Silver Coin in 1990.
History
When the Chinese Panda Silver Coin was issued in 1983, it debuted as a proof specimen with 27 Grams of .900 pure silver. This continued through 1985. No coin was issued in 1986. When it returned in 1987, the coin was still a proof specimen with 1 Troy oz of .925 silver. In 1989, the first 1 Troy oz .999 pure silver BU version of the coin was issued. In 2016, the Chinese Mint transitioned to offering a Chinese Panda 30 Gram Silver coin instead.
