The transition from Troy oz to Grams for the Chinese Gold Panda coins did not result in any change to the face value of the coin. In most cases, each coin had a slight change to its diameter and actual weight. The 1/2 oz Gold Panda had a weight of 15.5515 Grams and a diameter of 27 mm. When it was altered to the 15 Gram Gold Panda, it shed .5 Grams in weight while maintaining the same diameter.

Obverse

On the obverse field of the 15 Gram Chinese Gold Panda Coin is the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. Part of the Temple of Heaven Complex, this image has featured on the obverse of the Chinese Gold Panda coins since 1982 and is always accompanied by a date mark and an inscription in Mandarin that reads Peoples Republic of China.

Reverse

The reverse side of 15 Gram Gold Panda Coins includes a new depiction of the Giant Panda species each year. However, you will notice that 2001 and 2002-dated coins have the same design. This is the only time a design was repeated in the series.
