KOMSCO is known for its Chiwoo Cheonwang Series and its Zi:Sin Series among others. However, KOMSCO issues an array of medal/medallion programs, such as their new Korean Goddess Series and the popular Tiger Medals. These medals have been issued regularly since 2016 and feature changing imagery. Learn more about these Korean Tiger Medals right here at Provident Metals.
The reverse design has remained the same since the series debuted in 2016. While most series from KOMSCO feature a Doggaebi Shield, the Tiger Medals showcase a unique image of the Korean peninsula. In this design, the peninsula is depicted using letters of the Korean alphabet. The reverse also has a Taegeuk and a security device adding allure and authenticity to the design.
While the obverse design always shows a tiger, the exact image changes every year.
Silver medals are issued in a 1 oz size as well as a 10 oz size. Gold medals are released in sizes ranging from 1 oz to 1/10 oz.
1 oz silver medals have a mintage of 30,000, while 10 oz medals have a mintage of 300. Unique strikes such as proof strikes and antique medals are also issued in this series.
Gold medals in the series have unique mintage marks based on the size of the medal, the strike, and the year of issue. Mintages for the 1 oz medals are typically the year of issue. For example, the 2016 release would have a mintage of 2,016. Fractional-ounce weights have a mintage typically of 2x the 1 oz weight.
