The obverse of this copper round features a coiled rattlesnake designed by Benjamin Franklin, which dates to the French and Indian War. This image originally featured in a political cartoon with a message reading “Join, or Die” to unite the American Colonies. The snake serves as the centerpiece of this design and is joined by inscriptions “DON’T TREAD ON ME” and “ESTABLISHED IN 1754”.
The reverse of this copper round, designed by Thomas D. Rogers, carries the image of a bald eagle atop a banner reading “ETERNAL VIGILANCE”, a slogan attributed to Thomas Jefferson and dating to the early to mid-1800s. “THE PRICE OF LIBERTY” and “1 OZ .999 FINE COPPER” are also inscribed. Rogers, formerly of the US Mint, designed this reverse exclusively for Provident Metals.

I ordered these as gifts to friends working in offices. With the plastic airtights attached, I presented them…. All I got were wows and man these are great! We are all ex GIs and understand the meaning of the rattlesnake. I probably will get a few more for Christmas stocking stuffers.
