Provident Metals now offers the Elemental 2″ Zirconium Sphere, manufactured by Czar Metals. This sphere is made of 14.5 troy oz of .992 fine zirconium.The gently textured surface is a deep grey in color.
Each Zirconium Sphere is stamped with the element’s information. This includes the atomic symbol of Zr, the atomic number of 40, and the atomic mass of 91.224. Also featured are the melting point of 1855 degrees celsius and the density of 6.52 g/cc. The inscription “ZIRCONIUM” sits above this information, situated in a square shape to resemble the periodic table.
Though zirconium isn’t a particularly rare element, it has an abundance of uses that makes it highly valuable. Since zirconium does not absorb neutrons, it’s a favored material for nuclear applications. Zirconium’s strength and resistance to corrosion make it ideal for other uses such as ceramics, the manufacture of crucibles, foundry bricks, furnace linings, and many uses within the chemical industry. A form of this element is also used to make cubic zirconia, a synthetic gemstone that resembles a diamond.
Each Elemental Zirconium Sphere will ship in new condition, as received from Czar Metals, and protected in a resealable poly bag. And each will include a plastic base that will allow you to display your sphere without it rolling away.

I bought all three varieties of the 2″ exotic metal spheres available at the time.
These little guys feel GREAT in hand. They carry a beautifully textured finish and because they are sold based on size, (2″), and not weight, they all have a different heft. Along with a different shade for each metal-they range from pitch black to smoky gray to graphite gray. These differences make these babies so appealing, as variety is the name of the game in the world of collecting.
Although the stamps showing the periodic table properties of each sphere are not as pronounced as the pictures show them to be, they’re all fine and distinct enough to display for company to see, especially when at first glance they look like smaller cannon balls.
My only wish is that silver and copper spheres will be made available. I can’t see how they aren’t offered alongside these exotic metals spheres. What a sight that would be when lined up in display shelf!
