The reverse of this 2 oz silver round features a weather-worn pirate ship on turbulent seas being engulfed by the dreaded kraken. The foreground of this round features one of the kraken’s tentacle rising from the waters, ready to pull the ship to the depths of the sea. Three more tentacles are shown surrounding the ship.
The kraken is a giant legendary sea monster that inhabited the northern Atlantic Ocean. “Kraken” is a variant of the Norwegian word “krake”, which describes an unhealthy or twisted animal. The kraken features prominently in nautical lore, and has featured prominently in popular works of fiction, such as Lord Tennyson’s sonnet “The Kraken”, Herman Melville’s “Moby Dick”, and Jules Vern’s “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea”.
The common obverse of the of the Privateer Series features a human skull over the wooden wheel of a ship. A tattered rope is woven between rungs of the wheel. The obverse also features the inscriptions “NO PREY NO PAY”, and “2oz. FINE SILVER .999”.

The relief is a lot more prominent than the others, the rim is raised a lot higher than the rest due to the extremely high relief of the kraken tentacle & the bow of the ship! It also seems to fit a little more snug in the 2oz capsules than the others!!

A little disappointed by what I got. Every one of them has some serious dings across the top of the rim. Some even have really bad machine punch marks or something on the bevel part of the inside of the rim.
I already have another order of these in process, and if they’re just as bad, it will be my last elemental order.

Ok, upon a closer look under bright light. This is now my 2nd favorite and I’m sure will be #1 to alot of stackers. Not quite the depth of 1st series, but pretty darn close. This kraken has a LOT of detail and the photos do it 0 justice. I think with silver at such a low spot these arrrrr a steal. Down the road the $7 over per round will be a no brainer. This series has made me wish I’d got more than sets of 3. Oh well better than 1. You will not be disappointed! Air tights fit well with minimal rattle. Waiting for the next one. I’m gonna guess……….Poseidon?
