Somalian Elephant Gold Coins
One popular option is the Somalian Elephant Gold Coin. These coins were initially going to have the backing of Zambia. Elephant coins were even produced by the Bavarian State Mint along with Zambia from 1999 to 2003. It wasn’t until 2004 that these coins featured the backing of Somalia. Interestingly, while these coins are considered to be part of the African Wildlife series, only elephants have ever been featured.
Similar to annual BU coin programs from the Perth Mint, the image of elephants on the reverse changes with every new release. These coins feature the Somalian coat of arms on the obverse. While they are technically coins, the face value has been long debated. While 1 oz gold coins bear a face value of 1,000 Shillings, the Central Bank of Somalia has denied that these coins have any legal standing in Somalia.
Coins are issued in several weights and strikes. BU and proof coins are issued in sizes such as 1/50 oz, 1/25 oz, 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, 1 oz, and 5 oz, among others.
Niue Gold Coins
You’ll find at Provident Metals we have a wide array of Niue gold coins. These coins are typically struck by other mints, such as the New Zealand Mint, and have the backing of Niue.
