Own a piece of American history with circulated Liberty “V” Nickels in Good+ condition. Coins struck at the Philadelphia and Denver mints are included, and dates range from 1883-1912.
The obverse of each “V” Nickel features the left-facing profile of Lady Liberty. Her hair is styled in a loose bun and the band on her head reads “LIBERTY.” She is surrounded by 13 stars, with the date of issue at the bottom of the coin.
The reverse of each Liberty Head Nickel is stamped with the Roman numeral V at its center, indicating a face value of 5 cents. The V is surrounded by a wreath of laurel, along with the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” Mint marks are located in the lower right corner.
Each coin is composed of 75 percent copper and 25 percent nickel, with a diameter of 21.2 mm and a weight of .1651 troy ounces.
History of the Liberty Head “V” Nickel
In 1866, the United States Mint began producing the ill-fated Shield Nickel, which presented the mint with a number of headaches. Difficult to strike, thanks to an overly-detailed design, the nickel was issued for less than two decades.
In an attempt to increase nickel sales and simplify the striking process, Mint Chief Engraver Charles Barber was commissioned to design a new nickel, which entered production in 1883. Barber’s new Liberty Head “V” Nickel was incredibly popular with the public, remaining in circulation for nearly 30 years.

I ordered 5. All were G+ and I thought one was in better condition. Recieved all different dates from 1900's.
I would order again, since I like nickels and these are all over 100 years old. " |
