Great Britain 1/2 Sovereign Gold Coins were produced in two different types from 1817 to the present. The initial release of the coins took place from 1817 to 1926 as circulation specimens. These coins were predominantly struck and released in England through the Royal Mint, but 1/2 Sovereigns were also issued in Australia and India as each was an important part of the British Empire in the 19^th century. From 1926 to 1952, 1/2 Sovereigns were typically only struck in coronation years. As of 1980, the coins have again been available, but now as bullion and proof specimens.

Obverse
