The Indian Head Nickel was a five-cent piece the United States Mint issued between 1913 and 1938. The imagery found on the coin was a first in US Mint history as it showcased design themes based on indigenous American tribes. Both the obverse and reverse designs of this iconic coin depicted indigenous themes. Right now, you can purchase Indian Head Tribute Black Ruthenium Coins online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Provident Metals is happy to offer the all-new Indian Head Tribute Black Ruthenium Coins to you for purchase online. The coins have a thin layer of 24-karat gold and black Ruthenium on both faces of the coin. The coins are packaged inside of acrylic capsules and come with a small, round stand that makes it easy to display the coins in an upright position. Each one comes with a Certificate of Authenticity detailing its clad layering and non-legal-tender status.
Obverse
On the obverse side of Indian Head Tribute Black Ruthenium Coins is an image of a stoic Native American figure. The indigenous figure is shown in right-profile relief with braided hair at his side and feathers woven into the back of her head. This side of the coin has 24-karat gold plating on the design element with a black ruthenium background field. The inscriptions on these tribute coins are the exact same as legal tender bullion coins and read Liberty, 2021, and F, the initials for James Earle Fraser.
Reverse
The reverse face of Indian Head Tribute Black Ruthenium Coins comes with a depiction of the American bison, the largest land mammal in North America. This image captures a bison in left-profile relief as it stands on a small mound of dirt. Inscriptions on this face of the coin include United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, In God We Trust, $50, and 1 oz. .9999 Fine Gold. There is also an inscription of COPY on this side that indicates the coins are tribute coins and not legal tender.
History
The Indian Head Nickel, otherwise known as the Buffalo Nickel, was designed by James Earle Fraser and produced by the US Mint for circulation from 1913 to 1938. In 2006, the US Mint revived the images for the obverse and reverse fields of the American Buffalo Gold bullion coin, a specimen it offers annually in Brilliant Uncirculated and Proof versions.
