Obverse

On the obverse side of Mexican Libertad 1/10 oz Silver Coins, you will find the Angel of Independence. Also known as Winged Victory, the design shown here depicts Victory as she is shown atop the Mexican Independence Victory Column in Mexico City. The statue of Victory was commissioned in 1910 to mark the centennial of the start of the nations war of independence against Spain, and added to the newly-built Mexican Independence Victory Column in 1921 when it was completed to mark the centennial of the conclusion of the war. Inscriptions on this side of the coin read 1/10 Onza, Plata Pura, Ley .999, and offer up a date mark with the OM date mark of the Mexican Mint.

Reverse

The reverse face of Mexican Libertad Silver Coins includes the national coat of arms. A modern depiction of the national seal, this design includes a golden eagle on a cactus perch with a serpent it is battling to control in its beak and talons. There is a wreath framing the seal from below and the words Estados Unidos Mexicanos above the seal.

History

Mexican Libertad Silver Coins were first available with just 1 oz silver. In 1991, the 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz silver coins were introduced. In 1996, the 2 oz and 5 oz silver coins debuted. This was followed by the 1 Kilo coin in 2008.
