The New Zealand Mint is located in Auckland, New Zealand. This is the lone mint in the country and has over 50 years of experience as they were founded in 1967. While notes and coins of the New Zealand dollar are produced by the Royal Mint and the Royal Canadian Mint, the New Zealand Mint strikes bullion coinage for nations such as Fiji, Niue, and others.
This flagship bullion coin series from the New Zealand Mint debuted in 2010 and was originally the Fiji Taku Series. Beginning in 2014, Niue started to back these coins, and the coin program was changed to the Hawksbill Turtle Series.
These coins are struck in multiple sizes such as 1/2 oz, 1 oz. 2 oz, and 5 oz. Since 2014 the obverse has displayed the reigning British monarch, this has been Queen Elizabeth II from 2014 to 2023. In 2024, King Charles III made his debut in the series.
