The Morgan Silver Dollar is one of Americas most iconic coin designs, spanning several decades of circulation from the late 19th century into the early 20th century. These silver dollars were widely used in commerce, exchanged across the country as the U.S. economy grew. Now, certified Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each Morgan Silver Dollar in this listing is graded Mint State 65 (MS65). Coins in this condition feature a strong strike and impressive mint luster for their issue date. Some minor contact marks and light hairlines may be visible, but the coin remains in excellent shape. These coins have also been verified by CAC, as indicated by the CAC sticker on the slab. Please remember that coins are chosen at random from the years 1878 to 1904, and we cannot guarantee a specific date.
Obverse
The obverse of the Morgan Silver Dollar was designed by George T. Morgan and features a left-profile image of Lady Liberty. She is depicted wearing a Phrygian cap, a coronet crown, and a laurel wreath. The stars along the edge of the coin represent the original American Colonies. Inscriptions include E PLURIBUS UNUM, LIBERTY, and the year of issue.
Reverse
The reverse of the coin also features a design by Morgan, showing a heraldic eagle with its wings spread. The eagle clutches arrows and an olive branch, symbolizing both military strength and the nations desire for peace. A laurel wreath encircles the eagle, completing the classic design. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and ONE DOLLAR.
History
Morgan Silver Dollars debuted in 1878, marking the return of silver dollar coinage in the U.S. after a brief break. The series ran through 1904, with a one-year revival in 1921. During its original run, these silver dollars were produced at multiple U.S. Mint locations, including Philadelphia, Carson City (CC), New Orleans (O), and San Francisco (S).
