The United States Mint issued the Morgan Dollar Silver coins in the 19th and early 20th centuries with authorization through the Bland-Allison Act of 1878 and the Sherman Silver Purchase Act of 1890. These acts required the US Treasury to purchase silver on a monthly basis, with the former act setting a monetary volume of silver to be purchased and the latter act setting a physical weight in Troy oz for the Treasury to purchase. In the latter act, the US Mint was eventually required to continue coining Morgan Dollars until the silver the Treasury had purchased was depleted.

Obverse

On the obverse of Morgan Dollar Silver Coins, you will find an effigy of Lady Liberty in left-profile relief. This portrait of Liberty was created in 1878 by George T. Morgan and features Liberty wearing a coronet crown with LIBERTY engraved on it and a laurel wreath crown. Inscriptions on this side of the coin include read E PLURIBUS UNUM and a date mark.

Reverse

The reverse face of the Morgan Dollar Silver Coin features the heraldic eagle. This design also comes from Morgan and depicts the bald eagle in front-facing relief with the arrows of war in one talon and the olive branch of peace in the other. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and ONE DOLLAR.
