History

Historically, Morgan Silver Dollars were struck in large quantities during the late 19th century. Production expanded after the Bland-Allison Act required the government to purchase significant amounts of silver each year. Coins were minted at facilities in Philadelphia, San Francisco, Carson City, and New Orleans, often exceeding the need for circulating currency. Many of these coins were placed into long-term storage, where they remained untouched for years before entering the collector market.
