The first release of the Morgan Dollar Silver came in 1878 and replaced the Seated Liberty Dollar after a five-year hiatus in silver dollar coining in the United States. The Morgan Dollar would go on to enjoy annual production through the final three decades of the 19th century and take US silver dollars into the 20th century. Provident Metals now has Morgan Dollar Silver Coins available to you for purchase online in certified condition.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with protective plastic slabs courtesy of the PCGS or NGC!
  • Available dates in this listing run from 1878 to 1904!
  • Limited number of certified silver coins available!
  • Contains .7734 Troy oz of actual silver content.
  • Issued a face value of $1 (USD) by the government of the United States.
  • Bears a Grade of Mint State 65 from the Professional Coin Grading Service or Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
  • The obverse side depicts Lady Liberty.
  • On the reverse field is a heraldic eagle.
  • Please bear in mind it is possible to get coins with matching dates, mint marks, and grading house labels when buying several.

When you purchase a Morgan Dollar Silver Coin in this Provident Metals listing, you will receive a coin that is in Mint State 65 condition. Coins with this grade showcase high-quality mint luster for the date with several contact marks scattered throughout the field, one or two heavier marks, small patches of hairlines, and the potential for other scuff marks. All coins come with a protective plastic slab.

Provident Metals selects each coin at random after your payment has cleared. We cannot promise a particular date mark, mint mark, or grading house label in advance. All coins will be MS65 coins. If you buy several, you may get matching specimens.

Obverse

The obverse side of the Morgan Dollar Silver Coin features a left-profile portrait of Liberty. Created by George T. Morgan, this design shows Liberty in left-profile relief wearing a Phrygian cap at the back of her head. On top, she wears a coronet crown and a laurel wreath. There are 13 stars on this field and inscriptions of E PLURIBUS UNUM and the date mark, the latter of which features beneath the bust of Liberty.

Reverse

On the reverse face of Morgan Dollar Silver Coins, you will find a depiction of the heraldic eagle of the United States. This design element features a front-facing bald eagle with no US national shield included. The design element includes the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in the eagles talons, with an oak-and-laurel wreath around the bird. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and ONE DOLLAR.

History

Morgan Dollar Silver Coins were predominantly issued in the 19th century. Released from 1878 to 1904, and again in 1921, there are only 6 date marks in the 20th century, compared to 21 in the 19th century.
