Background on the Series

This popular series is inspired by the popular Bible story of Noah’s Ark. In the story, God punished the world for their collective sinning by causing a flood. However, God gives Noah a warning. God told Noah that he needed to build a boat large enough to house his family and at least 2 of every animal. Sure enough, the world was submerged in water. Eventually, Noah found refuge atop Mount Ararat – which although it’s in Turkey, it can be seen more prominently from Armenia.

Silver coins in the series debuted in 2011. It wasn’t until 2017 when 4 proof gold coins were introduced for 1 year only. In 2020, the coin program was expanded to include gold bullion options as well. Each of the 4 weights has been issued annually since they debuted.

Design of Noah’s Ark Gold Coins

The design of these coins, and the silver coins, have been the same since the series debuted back in 2011.

• Obverse: Armenian coat of arms. An eagle and a lion are propping up a shield that also shows heraldic eagles and lions. In the shield’s center is an image of Noah’s Ark atop Mount Ararat. Identifying marks of the coin surrounds the coat of arms.
• Reverse: Noah’s ark is floating in the water. In the background, we can see Mount Ararat. In the foreground, we can see a dove flying at the viewer.
