This design from Augustus Saint-Gaudens shows Liberty in left-profile relief with a feathered headdress and an arch of 13 stars over her head. The lone inscription on this side offers the date mark. An American bald eagle graces the reverse side of Pre-33 $10 Indian Eagle Gold Coins in this 8-Coin Rare Date Set. The bald eagle rests on a sheaf of arrows that is covered by an olive branch. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, TEN DOLLARS, and IN GOD WE TRUST. The lone exception to the last inscription is the 1908-D No Motto coin.
History
The coins in the Pre-33 $10 Indian Eagle Gold 8-Coin Rare Date Set are some of the scarcest issues from the $10 Indian Eagle Series. The 1908-D No Motto was one of the last No Motto releases in the series. The 1908-S With Motto is one of just 1,800 remaining specimens. The 1910-S has less than half of 1% of its original mintage surviving today. The 1911-S is a true beauty and is the sixth rarest coin in the series. The 1914-S and 1914-D have just 3% of the original mintage surviving today for the respective mint issues.
